2008 RECAP:

The 2008 Heritage Festival Kids' Corner was packed with creative, hands-on activities and fun. There were also many family-friendly performances and activities, including model trains at the American Legion and the giant climbing wall and Travelin’ Barnyard on the waterfront.

All children's activities were ongoing, from 10-4 each, day unless otherwise noted.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 20

COMMUNITY MURAL

Be part of this year’s Heritage Festival community art project! Using a variety of paints and techniques, work with local artist Leslie Allain to help create a giant mural featuring the wildlife of the Lamprey River to be displayed at the end of the festival.

FACE PAINTING

Have your face transformed into an amazing work of art by expert face painters.

MAGNETS!

Try your hand at painting a glass or ceramic magnet, and learn about pottery from the folks at To Your Arts Content in Exeter.

Pottery

From start to finish, witness the process of creating unique handmade pots with Jessica Seaton.

Rock Painting

Learn about Girl Scouting from the Newmarket Girl Scout volunteers and decorate your very own Pet Rock to take home.

TEDDY BEAR CLINIC

Bring your Teddy Bears for a complete check up and loving care from the staff at Lamprey Health Care. (Closes at 1 pm)

WHIRLYGIGS

Come and learn what lurks in Great Bay with staff members from the Great Bay Discovery Center. Make a cool and colorful whirlygig, too! (Closes at 3 pm)

Wooden Top Turning Demo

Local wood craftsman Al Mitchell, from the Homestead Woodworking School, will demonstrate how to make beautiful wooden spinning tops.

Local fiber craftswoman Melissa Walker demonstrates the art of spinning on her sturdy New Zealand spinning wheel, and shows how to felt wool.

TOUCH TANK

Reach in and touch real live ocean creatures, including sea stars, snails, crabs, mussels, and seaweed, brought to you by the Blue Ocean Society in Portsmouth.

Woven Bracelets

Led by talented Club Chameleon Counselors and Aides, make your own colorful woven bracelet.
